A Dance Party celebration of the African American teen television dance program "The Teenarama Dance Party" on WOOK-TV Ch. 14 in Washington, DC (1963-1970).
The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in partnership with the African American Music Association sponsors "Return to Teenarama Dance Party" on Sunday, November 3 from 1:00 p.m. -5:00 p.m. at the MLK Memorial Library, 901 G Street, NW, Washington, DC, 5th floor.
This is a celebration of the original African American teen television dance show the "Teenarama Dance Party" on WOOK-TV Ch. 14 from 1963-1970.
"Return to Teenarama" will feature DC hand dancing and freestyle dancing to the music of the 1960s by the Ignatius Mason & Friends Band and DJ Scooter Magrude and DJ Slow Roll! Can you Boogaloo, Twist, Jerk, Shake A Tailfeather? MC Reginald "Lucky" Luckett, prized contests, and more! Tribute to former host Bob King, Exec. Producer Tex Gathings and "Miles Long Sandwich Girl" Mishey Proctor. Enjoy a scene from the musical "Dancing on the Air: The Teenarama Story". Wear your best 60s attire! FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. REGISTRATION REQUIRED.
