Read and discuss the books that inspired Broadway musicals, enriching understanding and enjoyment of both!
Matilda (1988) by Roald Dahl is the story of Matilda Wormwood, a precocious girl abused by her parents and terrorized by her headmistress who discovers she has telekinetic powers and uses them to rebel. It is consistently rated as one of the best Children's books. A film adaptation was released in 1996.
Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical premiered on Broadway in 2013 and ran until 2017. Its music and lyrics were written by Tim Minchlin with book by Dennis Kelly. It was four Tony Awards. Netflix adapted the musical into a film in 2022.
We typically meet the fourth Thursday of the month at the Northeast Neighborhood Library at 6:30pm in the Mezzanine Conference Room.
