Celebrate Father’s Day with us as we explore this unforgettable story of courage, compassion, and the millions of steps taken in the name of feeding the hungry.
Join Lamond Riggs Library as we welcome Christian Gregory for a special Father’s Day celebration and reading of his new book, Seven Million Steps.
In Seven Million Steps, Christian Gregory shares the extraordinary true story of his father, Dick Gregory, and the 1976 journey that captured the nation’s attention. Dick Gregory embarked on a Herculean two‑and‑a‑half‑month run from Los Angeles to New York City, powered only by fruit juices, vitamins, water, and an unshakeable belief in justice.
Each stop along his 3,000‑mile route became a platform for truth‑telling. Gregory spoke fiercely about poverty, hunger, and the struggles of Americans living on the margins. Through lyrical storytelling, striking artwork, and rich backmatter, the book asks readers of all ages: What would you do if you had a bold idea to stand up for what you believe in?
Christian Gregory’s reading honors not only this remarkable journey but also the spirit of a father whose conviction continues to inspire generations.
