Secret Planet Productions and the Mt. Pleasant Library friends present YEISON LANDERO and PRIMAL PULSE free in the Large Meeting Room of the Mt. Pleasant Library!

Rain cannot stop MTP BLOCK FEST 2026. We'll just be in the library instead. The inclement weather adjustments to our schedule and lineup are as follows:

2:30 PM: PRIMAL PULSE free show in the Large Meeting Room

3-5 PM: Free community screenprinting with Nando Álvarez in the atrium/lobby

3:30 PM: YEISON LANDERO free show in the Large Meeting Room

5-8 PM: AFTERPARTY with Leon City Sounds & open decks at MARX CAFE (3203 Mt Pleasant St)

We will regrettably have to cancel the neighborhood market due to space constraints, but will bring it back for the next outdoor show.

La lluvia no detendrá el MTP BLOCK FEST 2026. Simplemente nos trasladaremos a la biblioteca. Los ajustes en nuestro horario y cartelera debido a las inclemencias del tiempo son los siguientes:

From the heart of the Montes de María region, on Colombia's Caribbean coast, where cumbia was born, YEISON LANDERO emerged as one of the genre's greatest performers and key figures worldwide. Grandson of the legendary Andrés Landero, the King of Cumbia, Yeison not only carries his surname, but also the passion of a tradition that has transcended borders. At the age of seven, Landero became his grandfather's most beloved disciple, inheriting the soul of a troubadour and the virtuosity of the accordion. His career has been marked by the mission to preserve, innovate, and bring cumbia to new audiences.

PRIMAL PULSE will bring the dark rhythmic melodies, neo-cumbia and dembow pa'sacar the evil spirits! This electronic duo is based in Washington, DC and San Salvador, and formed by brothers Manuel and Aldo Merino—seasoned musicians who combine their talents to explore traditional Latin American rhythms fused with electronic music. The project was born in 2016 with their self-titled EP. In 2018, they released their first full-length album, “Ritual,” with a clear intention of exploring local rhythms such as “Xuc,” featured in the track “Ritual Xuc.” In 2020, they continued their sonic exploration with the single “La Culebra,” a raw and ominous track driven by cumbia rhythms, with clear references to the work of Salvadoran cumbia bands from the 1980s and 1990s, such as Jhosse Lora and Algodón.

We are also excited to offer FREE COMMUNITY POSTER SCREENPRINTING of a custom design from local artist NANDO ÁLVAREZ, available while supplies last.

Desde el corazón de los Montes de María, en la costa caribeña colombiana, donde nació la cumbia, YEISON LANDERO emergió como uno de los grandes intérpretes y figuras clave del género a nivel mundial. Nieto del legendario Andrés Landero, el Rey de la Cumbia, Yeison no solo lleva su apellido, sino también la pasión de una tradición que ha trascendido fronteras. A los siete años, Landero se convirtió en el discípulo más querido de su abuelo, heredando el alma de trovador y el virtuosismo del acordeón. Su trayectoria ha estado marcada por la misión de preservar, innovar y acercar la cumbia a nuevos públicos.

PRIMAL PULSE traerá melodías rítmicas oscuras, neocumbia y dembow ¡para ahuyentar a los espíritus malignos! Este dúo electrónico, con sede en Washington, D.C. y San Salvador, está formado por los hermanos Manuel y Aldo Merino, músicos experimentados que combinan sus talentos para explorar ritmos latinoamericanos tradicionales fusionados con música electrónica. El proyecto nació en 2016 con su EP homónimo. En 2018, lanzaron su primer álbum de larga duración, “Ritual”, con la clara intención de explorar ritmos locales como el “Xuc”, presente en el tema “Ritual Xuc”. En 2020, continuaron su exploración sonora con el sencillo “La Culebra”, un tema crudo y ominoso impulsado por ritmos de cumbia, con claras referencias al trabajo de bandas salvadoreñas de cumbia de los años 80 y 90, como Jhosse Lora y Algodón.
