Read and discuss the books that inspired Broadway musicals, enriching understanding and enjoyment of both!
S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders (1967) is a coming of age story following Ponyboy Curtis and Greasers as they navigate adolescence, precarious economic conditions, and violence with a rival gang in late 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has become a mainstay of middle school English class literature, and has also was adapted into a film in 1983.
A musical of the same name premiered on Broadway in March, 2024. Its music and lyrics are by Jonathan Clay, Zach Chance, and Justine Levine, with book by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine. It received a whopping twelve Tony Award nominations and winning four, including Best Musical.
We typically meet the fourth Thursday of the month at the Northeast Neighborhood Library at 6:30pm in the Mezzanine Conference Room.
