Join us for a reception and artist talk to celebrate the exhibition BLACK(ER), on view on the fifth floor of the MLK Library through June 14.
Presented by Black Artists of DC (BADC) and curated by Gia Harewood, the exhibit BLACK(ER) reprises an important exhibition from BADC's archive.
In November 2009, Black Artists of DC (BADC) presented BLACK at the DC Arts Center, inviting 29 artists to interpret Black as concept, color, and racial identity. As America approaches its 250th anniversary amid renewed efforts to narrow and suppress Black history, this exhibition is reprised as BLACK(ER), bringing together select original artists and six new voices.
Curated by Gia Harewood (@giametricart), the exhibition asserts continuity and presence, framing Black culture as cumulative, resilient, and carried forward across generations.
For more information, visit the BLACK(ER) exhibit website.
