When AI-generated fiction wins literary prizes, what did the judges actually reward? Does AI simulate human creativity? An extension of humanity or a surrogate for it?
Professor Alexa Alice Joubin, Director of the Digital Humanities Institute at George Washington University, examines how AI is reshaping creativity and authorship. When AI-generated fiction wins literary prizes, what are judges truly rewarding? Does AI simulate human creativity or merely mimic patterns? Her talk explores hybrid authorship and whether these technologies extend humanity or act as surrogates, while considering how human and marginalized voices can be protected as AI content grows.
This program is part of “The Next Chapter: Perspectives on AI and Writing,” hosted by Georgetown Neighborhood Library and sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
