The Upskilling Labs is a fast-growing civic learning community focused on exploring how emerging tech and skill sharing can unlock new value for our local communities.
This workshop will orient you to concepts in The Upskilling Labs' Monthly Innovation Meetup first thematic project cycle focusing on healthcare. The Monthly Innovation Meetup invites anyone interested in upskilling to identify a real-world problem within the theme and experiment with using emerging technology like AI to address it along with a group of peers.
Join the general meetup right after this workshop: The Upskilling Labs: Health Systems Cycle Kick-Off (Jan 2026 Meetup) · Luma.
About the workshop:
The best solutions come from deeply understanding the people you're building for—not from falling in love with your first idea.
Design thinking is how you get there. It's a practice for discovering what actually matters to real people, then prototyping and testing your way to solutions that work.
Join Upskilling Labs' mentor, Rachel Wang, for a hands-on crash course in design thinking fundamentals, as they related to healthcare.
About Rachel:
Rachel S. Wang bridges education, technology, and innovation to design meaningful, user-driven solutions for learning and impact at scale. Most recently, she co-built the Virtual Educator Program at Georgetown University, a U.S. Department of State-funded program connecting educators with U.S. Embassies to deliver public diplomacy projects in over 60 countries. With 12 years of experience in international education, cross-cultural programming, and human-centered design, Rachel brings a design thinking mindset to nonprofit and education settings, helping organizations translate user insights into creative solutions.
