Join us for special screening of the Africa Academy Award-winning film NAWI: Dear Future Me, which is based on true events written by Kenyan teen counsellor Milcah Cherotich.
Register to attend and learn more about the film below.
In the deserts of Northern Kenya, where child marriage continues to steal futures, NAWI tells the story of a courageous girl who refuses to be sold for livestock. It takes us into the heart of a land where the Kenyan government‘s efforts to bring change collide with the enduring tradition of child marriages in the rural communities of Turkana.
NAWI is based on true events, on the winning story of a nationwide writing competition by Kenyan teen counsellor Milcah Cherotich. It has been selected as Kenya’s official Oscar entry 2025, won an Africa Academy Award as well as multiple other international awards including Best Film at Raindance and the Pan Africa Film Festival.
A growing number of impact screenings, including at the 2025 UN Commission on the Status of Women and significant media attention, with features such as the BBC are currently shaping the film‘s role as both a cinematic and social force. The narrative unfolds in the cinematically rarely explored region of Turkana, Northern Kenya.
NAWI delves into the complex issue of child marriage in rural Africa and follows a girl as she resists age-old social traditions. With our movie about hope, sacrifice, and dreams we aim to spark essential conversations on education and gender equality.
