A monthly community-based writing series that centers Latine, BIPOC, queer, and marginalized voices to explore personal and collective resistance and healing through storytelling.
Workshop Description
An exploration of transience through writing. How do our roots shape who we become, even as we move through different seasons of life? Through writing exercises, we’ll reflect on changing identities, interests, relationships, and experiences, considering what we carry with us, what we leave behind, and how change can deepen our understanding of where we come from and who we are becoming.
Workshop Facilitator
Sofia Romero (She/Her) is a poet, storyteller who writes about her experiences as a first-generation Salvadoran-American and the duality that comes with being a bicultural Latina. Sofia was raised in the Bay Area, California. Sofia spent 6 years in Madison, Wisconsin where she earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology. While in Madison, Sofia discovered storytelling and the power of owning and sharing one’s stories. Sofia has performed in numerous storytelling events in Madison, including the Moth Story Slam. She now resides in DC where she works as a scientist by day and a writer by night.
