A monthly community-based writing series that centers Latine, BIPOC, queer, and marginalized voices to explore personal and collective resistance and healing through storytelling.
Workshop Description:
Collective healing involves acknowledging that we belong to one another and to the earth. In this workshop participants will get a chance to connect to themselves, to explore the ways our connection has been fragmented and to dream about visions of a better shared future. Part healing space, part writing workshop, this generative session will help us build hope in these troubled times.
Workshop Facilitator: Sandy Ovalle [she/her/ella]
Sandy Ovalle is a table-setter, a practicing poet and essayist, and space-curator. She writes to inspire, create joy, and dream up justice. A native of Mexico City, Sandy often explores migration, identity formation, grief, and loss. Her work has appeared in the Journal of Latina Critical Feminism and Sojourners. Committed to pro-social systemic change, she has worked in the immigrant rights, climate, democracy, and faith-rooted social justice movements.
What to Expect
Each session includes a grounding welcome, a generative free-write, a deep dive into the theme, writing prompts, and time to share with each other in a supportive, welcoming space.
Participants are encouraged to speak, write, and share in both English and Spanish, and use the language(s) that feel most true to you.
No experience required. Come as you are, bring a notebook or laptop. Extra notebooks and pens will be provided.
