Join us for an online discussion of LGBTQ+ cinema with the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs. Each month, we will watch a film from the Library’s Kanopy collection and discuss it together on Twitter using the tag #DCQueerFlix. Past films have included "Moonlight," "Tomboy," and "Reaching for the Moon."
This December for #WorldAIDSDay, we'll be watching the Oscar-winning documentary, "Common Threads: Stories from the Quilt." The story of the AIDS Memorial Quilt established by the San Francisco NAMES Project Foundation in 1987 to commemorate the lives lost to AIDS. From the thousands memorialized in the quilt, celebrate their unique personalities and achievements, and interwoven personal histories with a chronology of the epidemic's development and the negligence of the government.
Note: For these events, we will each watch the movie in our own homes using the Library’s film collection, learn more at our Kanopy page.
