April's speaker:
Kamran Rasul works at Johns Hopkins University Student Disability Services (SDS) as the Assistive Technology/Alternate Format Specialist. In this role, Kamran works to ensure that technology-related systems and services are in place to remove barriers and facilitate inclusive experiences. Kamran advises on the purchase/use of assistive technologies; provides training to students, faculty, and staff; and oversees the alternate format conversion and captioning processes.
Before coming to Hopkins, Kamran worked as the Director of Assistive Technology at Columbia Basin College (CBC) and as the Assistive Technology Specialist for American University (AU). He led the adaptive technology services in both positions to ensure students with disabilities effectively provided adaptive technology support as part of their accommodation requests. He seeks to create an inclusive and welcoming environment wherever he works. Kamran received his B.A. in Anthropology from York University in Toronto, Canada, and an M.S. in Education from the Potsdam University of New York.
Kamran has always had a driving passion for the disability service field and calls it his second home. His interest in working in the field stems from openly accepting his disability, living all his life with a hearing impairment. He actively seeks out resources and support to accommodate his hearing impairment as an aid to living his life to the fullest.
