AI has become part of daily life in DC: from school to work to neighborhood life. Join a community conversation to make sense of what’s changing and what it means for you.

Join DC Public Library and Cool/Scary AI for a community‑centered conversation about how AI is showing up in real, local, concrete ways - and what it means for you, your work, and the people you interact with every day.

What You’ll Get Out of It

• A clear, accessible understanding of how AI is affecting everyday life in DC
• Real examples from community members — teachers, healthcare workers, artists, organizers, small‑business owners, and others who see neighborhood life up close
• Space to talk through your own questions, concerns, and experiences
• Practical language and frameworks to help you form your own personal guidelines for using and navigating AI
• A sense of how people across DC are thinking about this technology right now

How the Event Works

• A short, easy‑to‑follow introductory explanation of AI basics
• Brief “takes” from community voices on how AI is showing up in their corner of DC
• Small‑group conversations after each presentation
• Each table will have the option to write down one sentence capturing the group’s key takeaway. These notes are voluntary, anonymous, and only reflect what the table chooses to share.
• We’ll gather these shared takeaways into a set of anonymized themes so attendees can see what other DC neighbors are thinking about AI at future events. Nothing said in conversation will be recorded or attributed to individuals.

This event is for anyone who cares about what’s happening in their neighborhood and wants a grounded, practical conversation about how AI is showing up in everyday life. That includes:

• Teachers, school staff, students, and caregivers
• Healthcare workers and social service providers
• Artists, organizers, and cultural workers
• Small‑business owners, staff, and gig workers
• Civic association members and neighborhood leaders
• Anyone who wants grounded, practical insight into how AI is shaping the places where we live and work
• Teens and adults are welcome.

We’re inviting community members to offer a short, 3–5 minute “take” on how AI is showing up in their work or neighborhood. You don’t need to be a tech expert — we’re especially interested in grounded, everyday experiences.
