Come read with us!
This month we'll be discussing the National Book Award-winning novel, Blackouts, the stylistically complex and imaginative sophomore novel by Justin Torres. An unnamed narrator visits a dying man named Juan, an earlier acquaintance from when they were both patients at a psychiatric hospital. The narrator is tasked with completing Juan's life work, collecting and resurrecting forgotten queer stories. The result is mesh of fictional biography, narrative, and poetry inspired by an actual 1941 research study, "Sex Variants: A Study in Homosexual Patterns" by Jan Gay.
