A monthly virtual discussion on Web Accessibility
Web Accessibility Discussion Group
Thursday, 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Virtual meeting)
This is a monthly virtual discussion hosted by web accessibility specialist Benjamin Gray via Zoom on issues of interest to the Web Accessibility Community.
Starting with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), we'll build an understanding of Web accessibility from the ground up! WCAG are a set of rules and suggestions about how to make the web more accessible to people with disabilities. They are part of a series of web accessibility guidelines published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium, the main international standards organization for the Internet.
The discussion will allow us to gain an understanding of the general essence or purpose of the WCAG, how to navigate and interpret them, and why good HTML is such an important part of it (HTML is the basic language that the web is written in). We'll also include other topics like PDF accessibility and accessibility testing.
The WCAG is often perceived as a dry, boring subject, but it doesn't have to be. The goal of this program is to give a general understanding of web accessibility to people with an interest in the subject.
