Kick off Black Music Month with an electrifying celebration honoring 35 years of the legendary Backyard Band (BYB) — one of DC’s most influential and enduring Go-Go groups.
Experience an afternoon filled with the energy, rhythm and cultural pride that made Go-Go the official music of Washington, D.C. Whether you grew up on Go-Go or are discovering it for the first time, this celebration is for the whole city. This year we are celebrating 35 years of BYB, 50 Years of Go-Go as a kickoff to Black Music Month, 130 years of DC Public Library, and the library's newest exhibit District Vibes: American Pride which showcases the many ways that D.C. has influenced American culture.
Enjoy TWO sets by the iconic BYB with beats by DJ Remii. Come celebrate the music, the movement, and the culture that continues to shape DC.
Doors open at 1 p.m. Show starts at 1:30 p.m. Free for all ages! Capacity limit will be strictly enforced.
Backyard Band (BYB)Backyard also known as BYB is the most successful and widely known Go-Go band in the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia area as well as nationwide. BYB consists of Anwan ‘Big G’ Glover (lead talker) whom is nationally known for his role on HBO’s the Wire as Slim Charles. Leroy ‘Weensey’ Brandon (vocals), Tiffany ‘Sweetthang’ White (vocals), and Carlos ‘Los’ Chavels (rapper) who all make up the frontline. Keith ‘Sauce’ Robinson (percussion), Paul ‘Buggy’ Edwards (percussion), Bobby ‘Bob’ Terry (lead guitar), Eric ‘EB’ Britt (keyboard), Michael ‘Mike’ Dunklin (keyboard), and Marcus Johnson (keyboard).
