Fascinated by space? Love STEM? Stop by the MLK children’s room, located on the second floor, and grab our Alma Thomas & Space STEM Activity Kit-To-Go for ages 5 & up.
It’s the summer of Alma! We’re celebrating renowned African-American painter and Washingtonian Alma Thomas. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Thomas’s boundless curiosity led her to create gorgeous, out-of-this-world abstract masterpieces as she followed U.S. space missions. As both a teacher and a life-long learner, Thomas would appreciate these STEM kits which encourage children 5 and up to learn more about outer space through scientific experimentation.
Each Alma Thomas & Space STEM Activity Kit-To-Go includes over 12 projects (see below) as well as an informational booklet and glossary. Kits are available on a first come, first served basis and are only available at the MLK Jr Memorial Library. The children’s room is located on the second floor. Children must be 5 years of age or older to receive a free kit.
