Join members of the Washington Sculptors Group for a tour of the historic Mies van der Rohe-designed MLK Library building and learn more about their current juried open call exhibition.
In this two-part tour, visitors will get an overview of the MLK Library building, its architecture, and history, and a chance to talk with members of the Washington Sculptors Group about their current open call exhibition planned for the MLK Library in summer 2025. This is a great chance for local artists who work in three dimensions to connect with, and learn about, this local arts organization.
The tour begins in the MLK Library, Great Hall, near the entrance, at 4:00 pm.
About Washington Sculptors Group
Founded in 1984, the Washington Sculptors Group (WSG) is a nonprofit corporation committed to promoting an awareness and understanding of sculpture and fostering the exchange of ideas among sculptors, collectors and the public through exhibitions, events, workshops and social gatherings.
WSG plans, manages, and promotes 3–4 juried and curated exhibitions each year in galleries, museums, and alternative spaces throughout the greater Washington, DC area. These high-quality exhibitions offer members opportunities to show their work and raise their visibility within the region. The Washington Sculptors Group has preserved its records with The People's Archive at DC Public Library and has a current open call opportunity for members to exhibit in a juried show at the MLK Library in summer 2025.
About the upcoming juried exhibition at the MLK Library
There is still time to apply to the Washington Sculptors Group open call! The exhibition, titled Looking Back – Look Forward: Sources of Artistic Inspiration honors the Washington Sculptors Group’s forty years in the D.C. arts community, while highlighting the role that DC Public Library plays as the archive for much of the District’s cultural history. Through an open call, WSG members have been invited to submit work made responding to materials in archival collections held by the Library, or to concepts embodied by the Library itself and its role as community gathering space. Jurors for the exhibition include: Linnea Hegarty, Director of Events, Exhibits and Development at the DC Public Library; Babette Pendleton, Program Manager for the Corcoran / National Gallery Partnership; and Dr. Michelle May-Curry, Curator, DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and core faculty in Georgetown University’s Master’s program in Engaged and Public Humanities. Note: The exhibition is open to members of the Washington Sculptors Group only. Artists who are not already members may find out how to join and submit to the juried opportunity on the Washington Sculptors Group website.
