Celebrate Marian Anderson's birthday by viewing the PBS documentary, Voice of Freedom: Turbulent Times Turned an Artist Into a Hero
Marian Anderson was born on February 27, 1897. Over the course of her life, she would be known for her voice--for her wonderful singing, but also the way she used her voice to stand up for Civil Rights. In honor of her birthday, and Black History Month, we will screen the PBS American Experience documentary on Anderson, title Voice of Freedom. The piece is approximately 100 minutes long and best intended for audiences 13 and up.
From PBS, "Follow the story of singer Marian Anderson, whose talent broke down barriers around the world. Narrated by Renée Elise Goldsberry, Voice of Freedom interweaves Anderson's rich life story with this landmark moment in history, exploring fundamental questions about talent, race, fame, democracy and the American soul."
