Submit a video of your child reciting all or part of Useni Eugene Perkins' inspirational poem, Hey Black Child.
This February, children are invited to submit video of themselves reciting all or part of, Hey Black Child by Useni Eugene Perkins to be included in our "50 Years of Black Joy" video showcase. "This lyrical, empowering poem celebrates Black children and seeks to inspire all young people to dream big and achieve their goals." The first 5 families to submit will receive a copy of the picture book, masterfully illustrated by Bryan Collier. Children can access print, electronic and/or audio versions of the book through the library. The text and illustrations will also be displayed as a StoryWalk® around the perimeter of the Southeast Library garden for the public to enjoy. To participate, fill out this short form and upload your video by March 5th, 2022.
