About the Chinese Youth Club
The Chinese Youth Club (CYC) is one of the oldest Chinese American youth organizations in the United States. Established in 1939, CYC has spent more than 85 years creating community, developing young leaders, and preserving cultural traditions in the Greater Washington DC area. As a fully volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit, CYC thrives because of the dedication of families, alumni, and leaders who invest their time to support the next generation.
About the Nomad Dancers
Nomad Dancers is a collective inspired by traditions of Central Asia, Middle East, India, and Turkey, traveling across borders and bridging cultures in search of the ultimate dance experience. Nomad Dancers proudly presents Persian, Afghan, Tajik, Azeri, Uzbek, Uighur, and Ottoman Turkish traditional folkloric dances, as well as Bollywood and Fusion choreographies, at cultural events, celebrations and festivals in the Washington DC metropolitan area and beyond. The individual Nomad Dancers' fascination and interests in the graceful, playful, colorful, and rich dance traditions from across this vast region, coupled with the dancers' myriad experiences and talents, have inspired a varied repertoire of dances and glorious costumes prepared by the Nomad Dancers themselves.
Nomad Dancers was created in December 2008, and each of the individual dancers brings years of professional experience in various dance styles to the group. Nomads have performed at the White House, Washington DC's Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Istiklol Palace Theater in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, just to name a few. The collective is dedicated to bringing master teachers from around the world to help us refine our skills and craft our choreographies, better enabling us to bring diverse audiences together, and to spread cultural awareness of the region.
