Read and discuss the books that inspired Broadway musicals, enriching understanding and enjoyment of both!
American Psycho (1991), by Bret Ellis, is a novel set in late 1980s New York about narrated in the first person by an investment banker who is also a serial killer named Patrick Bateman. A frequently banned or restricted book due its violent depictions, Bateman is an unreliable narrator who may or may not be committing the crimes he narrates. The book is noted as an example of postmodern literature. It's most well known iteration is its adaptation into a film of the same name in 2000 starring Christian Bale.
"American Psycho" the musical debuted in London in 2013 with music by Duncan Sheik starring Matt Smith as Bateman. The show had a Broadway run in the spring of 2016, with 27 previews and only 54 regular performances.
