LAYC and other organizations and service providers will share information and resources at this outdoor community health fair. There will be food served outside and an SYEP-created exhibit inside.
The Latin American Youth Center's Community Wellness department will be celebrating the end of the MBSYEP 2023 program with a health fair for the community with large contributions from the participating youth. At LAYC, there are two separate tracks for SYEP participants. Each group worked on culminating projects that will be on display inside the library's large meeting room, along with related library materials.
Students in the DC Prevention Center Track learned about substance use disorder (SUD) and associated public health issues. They explored concepts of harm reduction, personal wellbeing, mental health and prevention. Their final project consists of organizing this health fair on and publishing their SUD Prevention and Education posters.
Students in the Food and Nutrition Track learned about gardening, cooking, and dietary health. They explored different concepts of nutrition and healthy eating, as well as the cultural connections between food and social groups. Their final project consists of supporting this community health fair and showcasing their Recipe book created based on what they learned throughout the summer.
Free food will be served outside, where people can receive information and resources from local organizations and service providers
The DC Prevention Center Wards 1 & 2 will distribute substance use prevention materials and community resources.
Friendship Place will share information about housing services in the DC region and also directly engage with and support any unhoused or housing-insecure community members during the event.
