Participants will enjoy a hands-on art experience as they create and keep in this summer-themed craft activity. An art instructor will guide students as they paint terracotta pots with summer themes.
*We welcome all adults and particularly encourage adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities to attend. This Create & Keep session is being taught by artist, Melanie Melendez. The library will supply all art materials and light refreshments. Registration is required and limited to 20 people. The event will take place at the Center for Accessibility on the 2nd floor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library.
Guest instructor, Melanie Melendez- born and raised in NYC - is consistently inspired by her Afro-Latina culture. Her love of art has led her to pursue a degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology and has over 10 years of experience in the fashion industry. While working as a technical designer she discovered a passion for teaching and shares her love of art through sewing and painting classes in addition to mentoring challenged adolescents through art therapy. Melanie is excited to share her talents with the D.C. community through art classes offered by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library.
