The People’s Archive invites you to learn the complicated stories of those on the frontlines of school integration in the 1970s.
Were there winners on the frontlines of integration? Set in Prince George’s Country during the 1970s, The Tower Road Bus revisits the unresolved stories of African-American students, teachers, and administrators thrust into integrating an all-white elementary school in Clinton, Maryland. The Tower Road Bus is directed by Michael Streissguth and features Dotson Burns, Jr. the first Black principal of majority-white school in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
A panel discussion about the film, racial equity and the impact of bussing featuring Michael Streissguth, Dotson Burns, Jr. and former students and teachers of Crestview Elementary School will follow the screening.
American Sign Language interpreters and CART (real time captioning) will be provided. For other reasonable accommodation requests, please contact DCPLaccess@dc.gov or call 202-727-2142.
