A conversation with actor Kal Penn for his book You Can't Be Serious
Kal Penn has played leading roles in some of the world's most-watched television shows and movies, including How I Met Your Mother, 24, Designated Survivor, House, and more. Kal has also worked at the very highest levels of politics, as an Associate Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, where he was President Obama's Liaison to Young Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and the Arts communities in America.
In You Can't Be Serious, Kal discusses how he built allies and found encouragement in Hollywood before taking a sabbatical to serve in the Obama White House. It is a series of funny, consequential, awkward and ridiculous stories from Penn's idiosyncratic life.
Following a reading from the book and discussion with the audience, copies of the book will be available for sale and signing. In addition, a limited number of copies will be available for free giveaways courtesy of the DC Public Library Foundation. This event is held in partnership with East City Bookshop.
