Come for a docudrama screening, leave with more understanding of the broader social media landscape. Rated PG-13. Registration required.
For nearly two decades, social media platforms have been an integral part of our lives. And today, whether we feel more connected or over exposed; better informed or extremely confused; empowered, seen, and heard or overstimulated, bullied, and censored... most of us recognize these technologies and the companies behind them have the power to change our lives.
Despite this enormous power, the fact is we, the social media users, know little if anything about how this technology is designed, regulated, and used. We tweet, we like, and we share, but we do not really know the consequences of our ever-growing dependence on social media. Can we change this?
We invite you to join us in screening of the docudrama The Social Dilemma and a follow up discussion about the ways we can start changing the dynamics behind social media algorithms and their power.
This event is a production of the Labs at DC Public Library. Click here for more information and to sign up to receive email updates from the Labs. Have more questions about screening? Send an email to labs.dcpl@dc.gov. For ASL interpreters and other reasonable accommodation requests, please contact DCPLaccess@dc.gov or call 202-727-2142.
