What does Jesse Owens and the 1936 Olympics have to do with famous brands Adidas and Puma? Join us, Professor J of Sneaker Theory, and NCAA track athlete Nyla Cherry to find out!
This year, the Mt. Pleasant Library is celebrating Black History Month through SNEAKERS -- specifically, the historic Black athletes and designers who have changed the world through their talent, effort, and shoes. We are partnering with journalist, UMD Professor, and founder of Sneaker Theory PROFESSOR J to learn about how a single shoe can reveal so much about Black History, American culture, and economics.
On Wednesday, February 18th join us on the second floor Children's Room to learn about how JESSE OWENS and the 1936 Berlin Olympics forever changed both track & field and the sneaker market.
We will be joined by University of Maryland student-athlete NYLA CHERRY who will be talking about life as an NCAA athlete and helping kids try out the long jump themselves.
