A poetry workshop celebrating the legacy of John Lewis.
Join us at the Library for a special poetry series celebrating the legacy of Congressman John Lewis. As part of the Young John Lewis reflection series with the Mosaic Theater Company, Tony Keith Jr. and the Ed Emcee Academy team will facilitate The Power of Knowing: John Lewis, Poetry & Hip-Hop - a 60-minute interactive workshop series for youth and young adults. The program honors the legacy of civil rights leader John Lewis and bridges his story with the expressive, justice-centered traditions of Hip-Hop and spoken word poetry.
Through this workshop, we will:
● Cultivate youth leadership by connecting John Lewis’s life lessons to participants’ lived experiences.
● Encourage creative expression through poetry and Hip-Hop as tools for civic engagement.
● Build bridges between the civil rights legacy and contemporary movements for social and environmental justice.
This event is supported by the DC Public Library Foundation.
