Esther Productions Inc., The Institute for African American Writing, and the Black Student Fund present a reading by Michele Evans and Samuel "Sami" Miranda
MidnightRose is a showcase of the multigenerational, multicultural writers in the Washington Metropolitan Region and beyond. Experience the richness of the community through the presentations of award-winning poets and authors.
Registration is not required to attend, but is encouraged.
About the Authors
Michele Evans is the author of poetry collection purl (Finishing Line Press), a 2025 nominee for the Maya Angelou Book Award and februaries, a chapbook forthcoming from Yellow Arrow Publishing in 2026. This fifth-generation Washingtonian (D.C.) teaches English and Creative Writing in Northern Virginia and serves as the adviser of Unbound, a nationally recognized and award-winning high school literary magazine. Prior to becoming an educator, Michele Evans studied English Language and Literature at Smith College, King's College-London, and the Graduate School at the University of Maryland. Her poetry has appeared in Artemis Journal, Bellevue Literary Review, Maryland Literary Review, Spoken Black Girl Magazine, Zora's Den and elsewhere.
Samuel “Sami” Miranda is a visual artist, poet, and teacher. He is the author of Protection from Erasure, published by Jaded Ibis Press, Departure, a chapbook published by Central Square Press, and We Is, published by Zozobra Publishing and his book Rewarding the Unhurried is forthcoming from Flowersong Press. He is currently working on collaborative projects with musicians, visual artists and filmmakers. He has performed his poetry and facilitated poetry workshops throughout the US, St. Maarten, Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Madrid. Samuel's artwork has been exhibited internationally in Puerto Rico and Madrid, as well as New York and Washington, DC. Sami Miranda also serves as Executive Director of the American Poetry Museum.
