Join us in December for the monthly meeting of the Calendars and Clocks Book Club. This month we will be reading Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal.
A warm-hearted book about family, though not without enough conflict to make for an engaging story (and a representation of how it feels to be a person), this book is a great read for the holiday season and end of the year. It's warm, hopeful, and interesting (and it's also full of food). Each chapter in J. Ryan Stradal's debut tells the story of a single dish and character, at once capturing the zeitgeist of the Midwest, the rise of foodie culture, and delves into the ways food creates community and a sense of identity. The way we can experience life and be surprised in our relationships is thoughtfully presented and brings us into the way our lives can ebb and flow, perfect for the close of the year.
Book copies available on the third floor of the MLK Library upon request to staff.
