After hours join organizers and programmers to celebrate community histories, music, and more!
Commemorate twenty-five years after the station's founding—the incredible community-organizing effort that was Radio CPR—a deeply grass-rooted radio station from Mt. Pleasant Street. The all-volunteer radio station broadcast a low-power FM signal that reached Mt. Pleasant and nearby neighborhoods from 1998-2017, offering a wide variety of music and public affairs programming on weeknights and weekends. Radio CPR brought together different communities, uplifted diverse voices, and contributed to the musical ecology of D.C. off-air through live music shows, dj nights, and helping end the limits on live music performance at restaurants in the neighborhood.
Learn about navigating the joys and challenges of community organizing through the airwaves and on the block. Archival materials will be on display from The People's Archive, plus a crowd-sourced timeline and a structured reflection and dreaming session. The event will be followed by an afterparty at Haydee's.
Listen to reflections on Radio CPR's legacy in the oral histories of the Anthology of Booty DJ crew via The People's Archive. You can also read about Radio CPR in two dissertations from Laurie Feld (2014, The George Washington University) and Maureen Loughran (2008, Brown University).
