Down on the A-Level guests can take in a provocative documentary trilogy with panel discussions throughout the evening starting at 6:30 p.m. The library will be showing Free the People, directed by Kintsugi Kelley-Chung & Andrew Jasiura. Following the murder of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the United States erupted in protest against police brutality. Thousands of people flooded the Nation’s Capitol to start a movement from the ground up, taking on the police while taking care of their community. This 3-part docuseries follows several activist organizations such as Earl’s First Amendment Grill and Good Trouble Co-op, as they expand their mutual aid network and defend themselves from violent crackdowns on protestors, especially after DC police murder two young Black men in the city.
Last but not least, you can support local creatives as they share their work at our vendor tables.
The Block Party @ MLK invites you to enjoy ALL that the library and that D.C. has to offer!
