The African American Music Association presents the documentary "A Hidden Gem: Jimmy McPhail" produced and directed by Larry Law.
Celebrate Jimmy McPhail's legacy Sunday, August 13th at 1:30pm in the auditorium at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. The African American Music Association presents the documentary "A Hidden Gem: Jimmy McPhail" produced and directed by Larry Law. Events will include a film screening, panel discussion, and a live performance by a jazz group.
Jimmy McPhail (1938-1998) was a legendary jazz musician in Washington, DC. He was an outstanding jazz vocalist who shared the stage with many top-named jazz musicians such as Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey and performed as a vocalist with the Duke Ellington orchestra. He also taught music at Eliot Jr. High School in Washington, DC and owned a very popular jazz club on Bladensburg Road, NE for several years.
