Dance for the Gods! Hit the runway, vogue, and win prizes alongside your fabulous neighbors!
Watch a dance demonstration from the International Kiki House of Supreme. Then enter a community competition; there will be two categories, beginner and experienced in voguing and runway.
Impress the judges: Ricky Tucker, author of "And the Category Is...: Inside New York's Vogue, House, and Ballroom Community;" Michael Roberson, public health practitioner, educator, and co-creator of the nation's only Black Gay Research Group; and Micah Powell, writer, poet, and community activist.
This event is supported by Mt. Pleasant Library Friends; all ages, genders, and dance levels are welcome.
Earlier that day at 1 pm visit Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library for An Afternoon with Ricky Tucker; a conversation with Tucker, Roberson, and Reginald Douglas of Mosaic Theater, on New York's ballroom community and its abundant legacy and influence in popular culture. Books will be available for purchase and signing through Loyalty Bookstores.
