DC Area Digital Navigators Meetup

Networking Against Scams

Are you a community tech helper, digital navigator, or digital literacy advocate? Join our second DC-Area Digital Navigators gathering for a session focused on helping residents avoid scams and fraud.

Join us for our first quarterly meetup, meant to continue the energy from June's inaugural DC area Digital Navigator Summit. This meetup's theme is Networking Against Scams.

Event overview:

1. Opening Panel featuring representatives from the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission on their free resources for detecting, reporting, and protecting against scams and fraud for consumers, plus Q&A.
2. Group Scam Fighting Workshop: work through real examples of scams in small groups and build strategies collaboratively.
3. 10-minute lightning talks led by you! We want to know your best methods and resources for fighting scams and fraud. Do you have a favorite app for blocking spam calls, or an effective way to explain the difference between real and fake images, or a workshop you run in Spanish that you'd like to share about, etc? Let us know on the registration form and we'll pick three for 10-minute mini-sessions.
4. Community Asset Mapping continued: we'll continue the work from our June summit on community asset mapping and keep building out our connections. If you/ someone at your organization has not yet filled out the Asset Mapping survey, please do so here.
5. Optional: we'll head over to Happy Hour at City Tap House afterwards for continued networking and catching up.
