War and Peace Summer Reading Group

On June 24, July 22, and August 26 at 7 pm on Zoom we will be meeting to discuss the novel 'War and Peace' by Leo Tolstoy.

On June 24, July 22, and August 26 at 7 pm on Zoom we will be meeting to discuss the novel 'War and Peace' by Leo Tolstoy.

We will be reading the novel in 3 parts. Any edition/translation is fine, as long as it's not abridged. Any translation is fine, as long as it isn’t abridged. (If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do it right!)

You can request a copy of the novel through the DCPL online catalog or you can pick up a copy at the Chevy Chase Neighborhood Library.

Here is our reading schedule:

June 24: Beginning - Volume II, Part 2

(Ends with “’Yes, and to drink,’” assented Nicholas. “’Hullo there! Another bottle!’” he shouted.” Or something similar, depending on the translation.)

July 22: Volume II, Part 3 - Volume III, Part 2

(Ends with “... on which at Borodinó for the first time the hand of an opponent of stronger spirit had been laid.” Or something similar, depending on the translation.)

August 26- Volume III, part 3, through the end.

And, of course, your attendance/reading time counts for the Adult "Discover Summer" program.  Earn some prizes to treat yourself when you are working your way through the book.
