Anybody who's paying off student loans or financing their kid's way through college should come for this eye-opening talk. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library
Join the Friends of the Library for a presentation by Jillian Berman, assistant managing editor at MarketWatch, where she covers student loans and consumer debt. Her new book Sunk Cost: Who's To Blame for the Nation's Broken Student Loan System and How to Fix It looks at the history of student lending from the GI Bill to the most recent attempts at restructuring the bureaucracy.
Berman draws on real-life examples of individuals impacted by a flawed system that has abandoned the principle that a well-educated population results in a strong country. Berman proposes changes that could turn one of the largest consumer financial challenges of our time into an opportunity for student loan borrowers to imagine a life beyond debt.
