participants help one another find and develop the power within themselves to change and lead fulfilling and balanced lives guided by our science-based and sensible 4-Point Program®.
HIPS has been a pillar in DC for those seeking to manage their substance use. Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) is a global community of mutual support groups.
What is a SMART Meeting?
At meetings, participants help one another find and develop the power within themselves to change and lead fulfilling and balanced lives guided by our science-based and sensible 4-Point Program®.
Trained HIPS staff will use the SMART Workbook to support participant growth. Unlike 12-step groups, this is intended to give the participants in the program the tools required to abstain/restrain/manage habitual behaviors.
Who is it for?
Anyone looking to acquire the tools to take control of their substance use. The program is abstinence-based but runs through a harm reduction lens where any positive change is considered a success, abstinence is not required to attend.
HIPS will be in the Great Hall from 4:00 to 5:00PM before every meeting to hand out information and answer questions related to harm reduction services! From 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM HIPS will hold "office hours" to discuss SMART and addiction planning. The SMART meeting will begin at 6:00 pm.
