Read and discuss the books that inspired Broadway musicals, enriching understanding and enjoyment of both!
Bram Stoker's 1897 gothic horror novel Dracula is an iconic fixture in horror inspiring vampire and horror art across all sorts of media for over a century. Dispatches from castle Dracula, macabre happenings in England, and a vampire-hunt across Europe make keep readers engaged in this macabre story, with its eerie mood heightened by its epistolary format.
"Dracula, the Musical" premiered on Broadway in 2004 to poor reviews and running for less than 200 performances before closing without receiving Tony nominations. Its musical score was composed by Frank Wildhorn, and its book and lyrics were written by Don Black and Christopher Hampton. It has more recently been edited and has had a renaissance in productions and acclaim in many European cities.
