Celebrate the award-winning album and film by Prince and The Revolution with the debut of this special anniversary work by Andrea Swensson and special rooftop day party
Black Music Month and DC Public Library’s Discover Summer kicks off with a celebration of the 40th Anniversary of Purple Rain, the Grammy and Oscar-winning album by Prince and the Revolution. Minneapolis-based music journalist Andrea Swennson debuts her new work Prince and Purple Rain: 40 Years, a definitive look at Prince the artist, the creation of The Revolution, and the legendary film and multi-platinum soundtrack.
The first twenty-five registrants received a complimentary copy of “Prince and Purple Rain: 40 Years” sponsored by the DC Public Library Foundation.
“This book is a love letter to Prince and Purple Rain . . . the moment in his career when he went from buzzy to red-hot, and from an acclaimed yet still somewhat underground art-funk-rock star to a blazing supernova who had the world’s attention, and who set the tone for not just music but pop culture for the rest of the 1980s.” —Author Andrea Swensson, from her introduction.
Authoritatively written and including rare photography and memorabilia, this beautiful slip-cased volume is a stunning and in-depth celebration of Prince’s most iconic album and film, Purple Rain.
