How the U Street Neighborhood Association (and friends) built a community through the creation of an urban garden.
U Street's Temperance Alley Garden was originally going to be a three-year project to turn a vacant lot into an urban garden. Now entering its forth (and possibly final) year, the "Temp Alley Garden" has become much more than the sum of its parts, becoming the center of a thriving creative community that has gone on to create original music, writing, and much more. During this panel discussion, three of the garden's stewards-- Sara Mack, Josh Morin and Aaron Lewis--will talk about the unique nature of the garden and their archival zine, TAG, which was in part inspired by the DC Punk Archive's zine collection.
Come for the discussion, pick up a copy of TAG and learn how you too can grow in the garden this year!
This talk will take place in the Labs on the A-Level of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library. In-person seating is limited, so be sure to register to reserve a seat.
ASL interpretation will be provided. For reasonable accommodation requests, please contact DCPLaccess@dc.gov or call 202-727-2142.
This lecture will also be streamed live to DC Public Library's YouTube channel.
