This is a monthly discussion on issues of interest to the Web Accessibility community.
Every third Thursday through September 2024 at 6:30 p.m on Zoom and in person at MLK Library
Benjamin Gray, web accessibility specialist, will host a Web Accessibility Discussion Group on the third Thursday night of each month, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm through September, over Zoom, presenting material of interest to the web accessibility community starting with WCAG and including more topics like PDF accessibility and accessibility testing.
Starting with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) we will build an understanding of Web accessibility from the ground up. WCAG are a set of rules and suggestions about how to make the web more accessible to people with disabilities. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are part of a series of web accessibility guidelines published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium, the main international standards organization for the Internet.
The discussion will allow us to gain an understanding the general essence or purpose of the WCAG, how to navigate and interpret them, and why good HTML is such an important part of it. HTML is the basic language that the web is written in.
The WCAG is often perceived as a dry, boring subject, but it doesn’t have to be. The goal of this program will be to give a general understanding of web accessibility to people with an interest.
