This one's for the femmes, the ladies, the GORLS!
It's Women's History Month and we're honoring the Pioneering Funk Musician, Betty Davis. Her short-lived, but breathtaking career was the blueprint that would later be emulated by artists such as Prince, Rick James, and Madonna. They Say I'm Different gives Ms. Davis her flowers and shows her defiance and integrity in the face of a music industry that aimed to limit and destroy her singular creativity and radical sensuality.
Next up we'll show Bluebeard by French filmmaker and provocateur, Catherine Breillat. Breillat's visions show feminine characters in all their individuality and brutal complexity. Her characters are in a constant tussle with the limiting forces of society, but they live to define themselves. Bluebeard is a twisted take on an old fairytale of a murderous lord whose reputation precedes him. When he takes a new, young and innocent wife, only time will tell how and if their love will endure.
