Artist Mathew New, author of "Billy Johnson and His Duck are Explorers", talks about the path they took to turn their self-published series into a traditionally published book.
Comic artist Mathew New is the author and illustrator of Billy Johnson and his Duck are Explorers, a middle grade graphic novel about the Indiana Jones-inspired adventures of a human and his best friend, a talking duck. During this lecture, New will take you through the process of creating a finished comic, from pencil sketch to inks and color. New will also touch on what it takes to publish a comic, having both self-published their own single issues and worked with a traditional publisher to create Billy Johnson.
This talk will take place on the A-Level of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library. In-person seating is limited, so be sure to register to reserve a seat. ASL interpretation will be provided. This lecture will also be streamed live to DC Public Library's YouTube channel.
