Queer Book Club is a small but enthusiastic community that meets monthly to discuss queer-themed books spanning numerous genres.

This month we’ll be meeting in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library’s conference room 401‑D to discuss The Memory Librarian: And Other Stories of Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe.

Join our Queer Book Club as we dive into a striking collection of speculative tales expanding the world first introduced in Monáe’s Dirty Computer.

In this visionary universe, memories are monitored, curated, and controlled by a powerful few. Your identity, your history, and even your sense of self can be altered at will. But everything changes when Jane 57821 chooses to remember — and chooses to resist.

Co-written with a team of exceptional creative collaborators, The Memory Librarian explores what it means to live under totalitarian control and what it takes to break free. These stories draw inspiration from the legacy of groundbreaking speculative writers like Octavia Butler, Ted Chiang, Becky Chambers, and Nnedi Okorafor, while bringing Monáe’s own bold voice and themes of queer identity, technology, empowerment, love, and liberation to the forefront.
