Five LGBTQ romance novelists discuss their work.
At Find Your Story, Join five romance authors for a discussion on the art of telling LGBTQ+ love stories, new perspectives on romance genre traditions, and writing meaningful "happily ever afters" for queer characters. Afterwards, meet the authors, have your books signed, and collect generative writing prompts for an informal workshop.
Susie Dumond (moderators) is a queer writer originally from Little Rock, Arkansas. She is the author of Queerly Beloved, Looking for a Sign, and Bed and Breakup, and she also talks about books as a senior contributor at Book Riot and a bookseller at her local indie bookstore. Susie lives in Washington, D.C., with her spouse, Mickey, and her cat, Maple. When she’s not writing or reading, you can find her baking cupcakes or belting karaoke at the nearest gay bar.
Timothy Janovsky is a queer, multidisciplinary storyteller based in DC. He is the USA Today bestselling author of The Merriest Misters, Never Been Kissed (Bookstlist starred review), You’re a Mean One, Matthew Prince (AudioFile Earphones Award), and New Adult (2024 ALA Alex Award Nomination). He is an inaugural author for the launch of Harlequin's new, inclusive spicy romance line Afterglow Books with his "playful yet heartfelt romp" (Publisher's Weekly), The Fake Dating Game.
Alison Cochrun is a Lambda Literary and Stonewall Honor Book award winning author of queer romance novels, including The Charm Offensive, Kiss Her Once for Me, Here We Go Again, and the upcoming Learning Curves. Thien-Kim Lam writes stories about Vietnamese characters who smash stereotypes and find their happy endings. A recovering Type-Asian, she guzzles cà phê sữa đá, makes art, and bakes her feelings to stay sane. Her debut book Happy Endings was a Washington Post Romance Novel of the Year. Her Mardi Gras romance Full Exposure is a love letter to her Vietnamese community in Louisiana. Thien-Kim also coaches writers of color and is an EDSE certified sex educator and the founder of Bawdy Bookworms, a subscription box that pairs sexy romances with erotic toys. She’s been featured on Jezebel, Bustle, Entertainment Weekly, and Oprah Daily.
TJ Alexander is a Lambda Literary Award finalist and critically acclaimed author who writes about queer love. Originally from Florida, they received their MA in writing and publishing from Emerson College in Boston. They live in New York City with their wife, cats, and various houseplants.

A Day of Writing and Community at MLK Library Celebrating DC’s LGBTQ Writers.
Find Your Story...Writing with Pride will be a day of workshops, presentations, and author talks focused on DC’s writing community. For World Pride the event will have special focus on LGBTQ writers in the DC area. The day will include panel discussions, informal writing workshops, and a dedicated poetry stage.
