Watch D.W. Griffith's "The Birth of a Nation," and discuss this controversial film with other movie goers.
The Birth of a Nation is the first movie shown at the White House when President Woodrow Wilson occupied the office. Both director D.W. Griffith and Thomas Dixon Jr., author of The Clansman, the book on which Birth of a Nation is based, attended the viewing. The film has gone down in the annals of history as important culturally, albeit divisive and provocative. Join the Shaw Library to discuss the film and its influence on race relations since its release in 1915.
