The sound of the city comes to the DC Public Library!
 
Join the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Library for a screening of the documentary film “Go-Go City: Displacement and Protest in Washington” Stay tuned afterwards for a live Go-Go performance by The Rocksteady Project.
 
“Go-Go City” combines interviews with musical legends, community organizers, politicians, protesters and academics to showcase the history of the city, which has come under the threat of rapid gentrification. The film offers a vivid portrait of the long-term citizens of Washington, DC rallying around the unique music to make their voices heard.
 
After the screening, enjoy a live performance from The Rocksteady Project. Conga player Ricky “Rocksteady” Brown has been a driving force behind the Go-Go beat for four decades. Now leading a band featuring a number younger musicians, it is a powerful mixture of the vanguard and the future of Go-Go.
